The story behind my artwork is each piece represents a different chapter in this made-up person's life. In the first piece, her life is very complicated it has a lot of “baggage" because she is going through a lot. The second piece is a little less busy because it uses fewer paint chips. The last piece is mostly empty because she is still continuing her story. The maps in this story represent her moving on throughout her life. The colors also have a meaning, for example in the first piece the dark green represents hardships and emotional baggage she has within her because that is what the color dark green translates to, for me and the dark clouds add on to that feeling. At the end of the second piece, I wanted the brown to show her moving on from that because that color reminds me of fall leaves when they are going to the next part of their cycle. Lastly, the last piece has light pink and cream colors because to me that looks peaceful and happy. And 1 last piece in the story: The two trees in the first two pieces. In the first piece, there is a healthy green tree and in the second piece it is smaller and not dead but a changed tree showing her character and in the last piece, there is no tree. In its place is a piece of paper showing how her character went from a tree into paper. Her character completely changed into something she never would have expected. I could have chosen to make the emotions more obvious by choosing red for anger but the colors I chose show the emotions I wanted to show to me even if I have to explain them. I made this story to tell a story about a made-up person’s story. She was going through a lot in the beginning but each piece represents a different feeling she is going through in her story. I hope this piece intrigues people and makes them notice every little detail and ask questions about it.
This piece was made to make others happy while looking at it. . Unlike my other projects, I tried to make this one look joyous and live and I tried to show that through colors and things that are normally associated with happiness like flowers and stars. One of the influences for the bright colors was “Papel Picado” which is colorful paper with patterns that is very traditional in Mexico. I wanted my project to be just as colorful and eye-appealing as the paper. The story behind my title was the city Puerta Vallarta in Jalisco, Mexico. I visited the city after finishing my project and was shocked at the amount of flowers and nice people. You can’t help but smile when you’re there. I chose this theme because when I was brainstorming for an idea I was happy. When I was working on it and I was upset about another class I was still delighted to jump back in. Adding on to it and making each flower special was very fun and rewarding. I am glad I was able to add in a piece of Mexico with the colors and title because the piece will remind me of a time when I was happy- in Mexico at my sisters’ wedding. I made the piece so others could be happy but in the end, I was the happiest.
