Hope-world isn’t as far away as we think. For my first piece, hope-world, I used watercolor to give it a smooth texture. I also colored it with warm, pastel colors to give it a happy feeling. The people floating away represent souls trying to escape to this happy place called hope-world. They are leaving Earth, reality, on this cloud called imagination that takes them to their new home. For some, reaching that “world” is only possible when they create a better version of themselves or a better future in their head. I hope that when those people look at my art they feel at peace and know that their struggle will have an answer. They should use that imagination and hope to pull them out of that “earth” that they are in to bigger better things. My inspiration was a music artist called J-Hope who made a mixtape called Hope-World and the music and cover were very loud and happy but I wanted to create my version of that planet. J-hope was my own hope at times and I am trying to pass along that peace that he brought me.

My artwork is a “picture” of a happy couple on the left who have a baby and it’s all rainbow and sunshine at that moment. I used bright colors to make it look like they were really in love and had a perfect family. On the right is how the “perfect family” changed over a couple of years. The father is leaving his two kids in the dark and empty room. The colors represent the changed mood. I made this piece to tell part of my story. My parents are divorced and when my father left I was as sad as the kids on the right side of the photo but I still have that really close connection I’ve always had with him. Unfortunately, some kids don’t have that opportunity and this is like a homage to their struggles.

My artwork is about physically looking into someone’s mind while they are dreaming. The black and remind represent the anger the person is normally feeling while they are awake. But the clouds are different hidden emotions he is feeling while his mind wanders when he’s asleep. The red cloud represents anger, the blue cloud represents sadness, the orange cloud represents happiness( the happy cloud being the smallest because he isn’t that happy), and a mysterious green cloud representing a feeling he himself doesn’t know. He only shows his true emotion when he’s dreaming. I made this piece to show people that it’s ok to show emotion on the outside. I got inspiration from Ariana Grande’s, song P.O.V., lyric: “my baggage fadin’ safely” because I hope that’s what happens to all the people who have a hard time opening up.
